Incongruous palms

I have in my time been mocked - yea, mocked with disbelief in the mockery - for pointing out that we in the west have a temperate climate, mild enough for palm trees to grow in the open. But I can't help feeling the poor things look a tad odd on a day such as today, with the rain driving along the East Bay promenade. Nice flowers, though - the EnviroKirn people or whoever it is that looks after them have done a good job.
