A red rarity

#84-86 - BlipBigYear 2014

The best part about doing Snowy Plover surveys on beaches that are known to be plover-less is getting to enjoy the other birds that are there. Like this Red Knot (Calidris canutus, #84) in breeding plumage, for example. It and another bird in nonbreeding plumage were hanging out in a mixed shorebird flock that also included Marbled Godwits (Limosa fedoa, far left, #85), Black-bellied Plovers (Pluvialis squatarola, far right, #86), and Sanderlings (Calidris alba, the wee ones in the middle).
