Cradle of Polygonum

I love the ground cover plant polygonum (sometimes known by the less attractive name of knotweed). It can spread prodigiously like a weed but in certain places it suppresses weeds and provides almost year-round colour. Its small flowers are pink, white or red, forming in summer in dense clusters from the leaf joints. At this time of year the shiny green arrowhead leaves begin to turn deep red. I liked the way these two serrated leaves from the nearby flowering cherry tree have landed in this colourful cradle of polygonum leaves.
