Of Giant Pumpkins ...
It's been a rather busy twenty four hours ...
I was up early this morning and had to go up the allotment as dad was having his giant pumpkin collected.
Dad has grown giant pumpkins over the past few years that have been collected and auctioned off for charity. We have had firemen and soldiers collect them in the past. This year it was four men and a van!
Dad's chosen charity is Bobath. B0bath run a centre for children with cerebral palsy. He's done loads of fund raising for them over the years.
This year the pumpkin has been taken to the Pettigrew Tea Room in Bute Park. It is a £1 a go to guess the weight, so if you are passing there over the next few days, feel free to pop in and have a go. It hadn't been weighed when the boys collected it today, so I have no idea how heavy it is. All I can tell you is helped lift it onto the back of the van, and it took six of us with all the strength we could muster to get it on there. The rain did its best to turn the allotment into a skating rink .. nothing like a challenge eh!
We know it made it there safely as Pettigrews tweeted this image.
The second smaller pumpkin went to Velindre, which is a cancer charity. They helped dad enormously whilst he was undergoing treatment. I don't actually know where that one has ended up, or what the intention is for it. Hopefully both causes will benefit greatly from them.
I really like this photo as it does show a satisfied if not exhausted Bobath volunteer after they managed to lug the beast up the slippery hill of dads plot.

If you want to see the titanic struggle to get the pumpkin into the van, then I captured it all here in this Flickr Album.
