Community Day
My work allows us to take a day a year to spend it helping a local community. This is the 5th time that we have gone to Corbenic, a wonderful place for mentally disabled adults set in the glorious Highland Perthshire countryside just outside Dunkeld. It''s pretty hard work, mostly digging and laying paths for the residents to walk safely around the extensive grounds.
Although windy, (tail end of Hurricane Gonzalo) it was sunny and a brilliant team effort meant that the path to the pond at the top of the hill was completed. The previous time the path had to be dug with spades, but luckily Corbenic had hired a small digger and driver for the day so we got masses done.
Such satisfying work. Especially as just as we finished a small group of the residents came walking down the newly laid path. It now means there is a circular path, I would say a mile, can be walked in safety. It was also good to hear that the path we did on the second visit, down to the river, is used in the summer for them to go swimming.
I really love going here. Plan to visit soon just to walk round it without having to work on it, and bring the family to see how much we have done.
