A Silver Lining
There have been grey clouds over our family for the past five weeks since The Mother was admitted to hospital, but today I saw a silver lining.
This morning our social worker rang saying there was now a bed available in Penrith hospital so, instead of staying 20 miles away in Carlisle, The Mother could come to within 6 miles of me and maybe today instead of next week!
At visiting time I got a bit of a clue by seeing her possessions bagged up, she but couldn't actually go unless transport was available. At 4.30 the ambulance crew arrived.
Mum was subdued and sleepy this afternoon and found it hard to understand what was happening. However tonight I was reassured by the ward sister at Penrith that she had been chatty and settled down well. Whew! An end to the daily struggle to find a parking place. An end to the 40 mile round trip, not to mention the expense, and thankfully, not an horrendous journey to Alston and back in the dark as had been suggested!
I am so relieved! It will also be so easy for The Mother's wonderful friends to visit her.
We have a meeting with the care home staff and social services next Thursday to discuss future care.
Thanks for your caring comments. I took a lazy shot today, sorry about that.
