Male Black Woodpecker

I went on a hike with a scout group (age 8- 13) this weekend. We walked for 5 1/2 hours from Bremen- Liliental to Worpswede on Saturday and stayed at the local youth hostel.

Somewhere along the way, I saw this woodpecker. He was very much minding his own business, pecking away at e tree stump. After a minute or two, he flew away to the nearest tree, and waited for us to walk on.
