Standing watch

I captured this photograph during a broadcast burn operation on the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest in southern Oregon. Fairly spent after burning a previous unit, the crew and I arrived at this meadow restoration project in the late afternoon and began holding the line. I was heading back to our trucks to grab another drip torch when this smokily framed silhouette of one of the Siskiyou rappellers stopped me in my tracks.
