Sobering Poppies
No Canaster last night, just Sequence and Rummikub, both of which I can cope with. Horrific number of empty bottles in the kitchen this morning though.
The fast train to London was standing room only and the underground was the same. Tower Hill station was closed so we walked from Aldgate East and took around an hour to walk along the path which skirts the Tower. It was heaving, but quiet and respectful.
Seeing so many poppies and trying to translate them into people was very sobering. I have bought one of the ceramic poppies in memory of my two great uncles who died in the Great War. They will be despatched after Remembrance Day.
Afterwards we walked up to Brick Lane and what a fascinating place that is. Why haven't we been before? It wasn't our intended destination, that was Arnold Circus which had been the subject of a television programme a couple of years ago about its changing fortunes. A lovely tranquil spot with a raised central garden and bandstand, complete with tramp sleeping in a big cardboard box. We didn't disturb him.
A great day out.
