Rainbow, sheep and a train
A damp start to the day, but the forecast said it would be a fine and dry afternoon – wrong!
We set off with some brave friends for another of our exploration walks round Kirkby Stephen. Fortunately we had chosen a short walk, as the fine, bright day soon deteriorated into drizzle and then rain. And it was very windy.
However, it was nice to get out and be blown about a bit and we did discover some old sunken lanes and green tracks. And at one point the sun broke through and lit the whole place up with the most wonderful light and the hint of a rainbow.
Discovering, as we returned to the car park, that an Auction Mart was on, we went inside and watched as sheep were bought and sold at a rapid rate. Fascinating.
And then on our way home we found some photographers gathered at a railway bridge and soon discovered they were waiting for a steam train to come through from Appleby. We joined them and it did – we were covered in steam. Brilliant!
