150,000!
That's 150,000 lives lost represented by this sea of poppies at the Tower of London.
That's an estimate - I didn't count them all. I suspect this was around 20% of the whole number, maybe a few more.
We had to go down to London to see this sight. Awesome just for it's visual impact alone, but, when you consider what it represents, it shows the awful and senseless waste of life in the Great War.
It was crush busy - I think there must have been between 50,000 to 80,000 people there for the hour or so while we were there - I would expect there to be several hundred thousand pass through here during the day. What a fabulous tribute by the british people and all the foreign visitors. This is a truly unbelievable number considering the Circle Line wasn't operating to Tower Hill - Streams of people walking from every direction.
Who had this idea should be rewarded for their idea and creativity.
Having walked down from Aldgate, around the Tower we then walked along the North bank of the Thames up to the Millennium Bridge and over to Tate Modern. A nice beer and some lunch just along from there and finally a walk further along and over to Covent Garden and a sneaky look at the new 5k iMac….it'll have to wait :-(
Some great views of the big city today, but this has to be the memory.
