Old Paris

The first full day of our Lakeland Photographic trip to Paris, and we were doing 'Old Paris' today. Started off with a trip to Plas des Vosges where we photographed an old-fashioned square with arched walkways. We then walked the former location of the Bastille before moving on to the Town Hall (Hotel de Ville). After a coffee stop we walked along the Seine, getting good views of Notre Dame Cathedral, and then photographed the bridge that's covered in padlocks.

Next, we walked around Notre Dame and got some good shots of the detail on the roof and the main area in front of the cathedral. The queues to get in for a look around were long! We took a wander around a market near the Cite Metro station and found a cafe for lunch - Croque Monseiur (cheese and ham toastie).

The Louvre was next, it's a massive building with several squares, one of which is dominated by the glass pyramid. From here we walked through the Tuileries Gardens towards the Champs-Elysees, and then most of us took the metro up to the Arc De Triomphe. The arch was very busy - we had planned to go up the top, to get views over Paris, but the queue was long so we decided to come back the following morning.

After that it was back to the hotel to grab tripods, and we returned to the Louvre to take some night shots of the pyramids in the drizzle. Dinner was at an Italian restaurant near the Lovre - pizza and gnocchi for us.

The blip is from the corner of Plas des Vosges - I thought it was very French.

Update: More pictures from the day now available on Flickr.
