Surfbirds
I lied - they aren't Surfbirds but they are birds that always live on the edge of the surf. Indeed unless you zoom in a bit you probably won't see any birds at all. Sanderling typify winter on a sandy shore in Britain. They make a great duracell advert, always running too and fro on the shore like little clockwork toys.
After breeding in the arctic they come south for the warmth (?) of our shores.
It felt like they had got it wrong today. Strong cold winds with the odd hail shower made it a day to dodge in and out depending on when you could see the next squall coming through.
The local archaeology group met to look at certain sites at risk of erosion and we did manage to avoid a soaking but only courtesy of a well placed wall at one stage.
