Pelicans!!

We were a little slow getting up this morning - can't think why... :)

We packed up our things and left SF, driving south towards Highway 1. We stopped for coffee at Pacifica, then drove steadily on southwards, past the seaside towns heavily populated by ex-San Francisco or bay area professionals - they just exuded comfortable wealth...

The road hugged the coast, so we had view after view of beaches, sea, birds, sun, surfers, kite surfers... Mrs BH was feeling a little fragile so I was driving with the top down with Air playing on the stereo - very mellow indeed!

She perked up early afternoon when we stopped at a nature reserve to have lunch on the beach - proper sandwiches, with sand in and everything! The beach seemed to stretch to ever, brilliant white sand, blue sea, crashing foamy waves, clear blue skies and every now and then this group of pelicans flew over us. I think the same group flew over a few times, but I can't be sure. Anyway, I was pleased to get this shot of them in flight.

Then, the other side of the sand dunes there was a lagoon with seals, more pelicans, and loads of other birds that we couldn't identify...

We stopped in Pacific Grove this evening - another AirBnB place, booked when we were a little the worse for wear last night... but it was just fine. They directed us to a very pleasant veggie restaurant for dinner, then back for a relatively early night!
