Out splitting a bit more wood . . .. This is NOT Peltogyne commonly called purple-heart wood but that's what it reminds me of. Purple heart starts out as a very dark aubergine colour and wouldn't have such a crooked grain. Some dulcimer builders have used purple-heart as decorative inlay.
