Apomorphine: nasty stuff!

This afternoon started quietly but then I saw two cases of self-poisoning in dogs:
The first was a little dog who'd decided to eat several human paracetamol and codeine capsules. Codeine is relatively benign but paracetamol is highly toxic to dogs - the dog in question was thought to have received about 100 x the safe dose.

The second dog had eaten as gift box of Belgian Chocolates. Chocolate contains several chemical which are cardio-toxic to dogs.

I had to make both dogs sick.

Apomorphine looks innocuous but it is the most dependable drug to induce vomiting in dogs. Not nice. Both dog came in feeling fine but I made them both feel very nauseous. They were sick. We started supportive treatment of "The chocolate dog" and for the other wee cross-bred who have self-medicated with paracetamol we managed to get hold of N acetyl cystine which is an antidote.
