Demolition

What to do with a dead piano?

The repair man said it was too old to fix. One couldn't replace the strings. We couldn't get it up the 10 steps to the front of the house, anyway. So it was abandoned in the car port... No waste removal collection for pianos. Removalists said they wouldn't take it to the dump. Piano movers weren't willing to take the task, and single mums aren't good at lifting pianos.

So it sat and gathered cobwebs until this weekend when the kids and I decided to pull it apart so we can take it to the dump in pieces. It was quite well put together and required hammers, screwdrivers, spanners, a saw and a wrecking bar. My daughter piled the keys into a bag to await a moment of creative inspiration. With the end of his hammer, my son made it sound like a harp. Sad to see a beautiful instrument demolished, but I'll be glad to be rid of the thing!
