BE CLEAR ON CANCER - PINKTOBER 27
I certainly had my money’s worth this morning from the NHS - I went to see my GP and she has now referred me to the MATS clinic - and despite what you may think, it is not about carpets etc!
MAT stands for Musculoskeletal Assessment and Triage Service, which is a team of specialist and general physiotherapists, who will decide the best way to treat my knee injury - it may take up to 6 weeks to get an appointment, so I could be completely better by then.
I then had two injections in my sore right thumb and we also discussed my cholesterol, which is higher than it should be but hopefully we can manage this by changing our lifestyle, as Mr. HCB also has the same problem. Oh the joys of getting older more mature.
I saw this leaflet in the surgery waiting room and it fits in very well with the BCAM pink challenge. Between the ages of 50 and 70, women are currently invited for breast-screening and I knew that once I was over 70 (which is not just yet!) I would not get called routinely, but didn’t realise that I could ask for a free screening every 3 years.
It also states that to reduce my chances of getting breast cancer I should:
(a) Maintain a healthy weight - well I am trying to do that;
(b) Cut down on alcohol - I hardly ever drink;
(c) Look after myself and keep active - that may be a bit difficult at the moment, but I will soon be back to normal in this respect.
I realise how fortunate we are to have a good National Health Service, despite how much people grumble, so please continue to click on this LINK to enable those who do have the same good fortune to have a free mammogram. Many thanks for your support.
