Carisbrooke Castle
Out of all the great shots that I took around the Island today I chose this one for two reasons:
First of all Mrs W could not blip the same photo – although she also had many shots of the castle the poor old soul could not make it up onto the wall and had to sit it out while I got the high level views.
And second, this particular shot from high places was a challenge – spot the ice cream van (that was) . . .
We had a very enjoyable day seeing the Isle of Wight, including the Needles and Alum Bay, Carisbrooke Castle, Cowes (fleetingly but including the ‘chain ferry’), a number of viewpoints on/from Brading Down, Sandown and Shanklin where we were staying.
The chairlift at Alum bay was great fun, and without it Mrs W would never have been able to see the coloured sands. At the top they have built a small theme park. This I can take and would be happy to walk through it to reach the chairlift, but the whole thing was made un-bearable with the loud music blaring out from loud speakers all over the place . ! . ! .
Although not seeing ‘Osborne’ (Queen Victoria’s summer palace) leaves a gap we don’t think that are likely to return in the near future. Having said that it’s a great place to bring the kids as there are lots everything all close together, and will be recommending it to our daughter. We could even volunteer to join them on Grandparent duties, but we would like to stay in the same Shanklin hotel we stayed in this time – well it is adults only!!
