Nothing Shocking
Last year, i got the first setlist of my collection. After having a little issue with StubHub, they gave me a 50% off coupon for any event available. At the time, it seemed like there wasnt any good shows around and if there were, i wasnt able to go.
Uproar 2013's headliners were Circa Survive, Coheed and Cambria, Janes Addiction, and Alice In Chains. I refused to buy tickets to this show because of Alice In Chains. Dont get me wrong, i love old alice in chains (before Layne Staley- their singer died), but they have a "new" singer who just killed the band in so many ways... I dont know, i think they're touring as alice in chains to get money, so i didnt want to see them. The only band there i actually wanted to see was Janes Addiction but they play small venues every once in awhile so it wouldnt be a struggle to see them, if that makes any sense?
So my mom surprised me with the tickets a few weeks before the show and i was not excited. I know it sounds like a bratty move, but i was not remotely excited to be there. The day of the show was rainy and miserable (which cleared up during the day, only to follow in a terential down-pour). Like always, we were the first ones in the venue, and i bee-lined to the main stage which was blocked off until later that night. Even though it was blocked off, i waited all day there in order to get a good spot because lets be honest, once you've been front row, you wont want to be anywhere else. After it started downpouring at about 3:00, people were allowed to stand under the huge tent (at Montage) which made me feel very... Competitive? Ballsy?
Now, I'm naturally very cut-throat and daring, so when i have a challenge like this, i'm all for it.
It was a challenge because people who would normall be in the pit werent outside, but they were under the "tent" so if they wanted to, they could easily get in line... But they didnt. Eventually, i started the line and ran to the front.
Ive never heard of Circa Survive or Coheed and Cambria, but no matter how terrible the band are, i always try to have fun so the time passes. Circa Survive was rather entertaining... Their singer was not only making the creepiest faces, but he was also crawling on the ground... I dont even know how to describe it, It was just so weird! And then Coheed and Cambria came on. Throughout the day, i seen a lot of people sporting merch, tattoos, the full 9 yards. So i thought, maybe i'll like them? (Theyre one of the only bands i've never googled before the show.) So when they came on, its like it never ended. I was just getting desperate, i wanted to see Janes Addiction, and i just remember thinking "how many songs are left... Oh my gosh!".
Eventually they left set and i was estatic. Once Janes Addiction came on, it just made me feel like the entire trip wasnt a waste. They played most of their songs off of "Nothing Shocking", but the sound was just very distorted.
Not to sound like a little fan girl, but Perry Farrell (singer) was blowing kisses to the audience, so i decided to wait until he looked and i would blow them back... He seen and blew them back again... I literally started fangirling like a 12 year old Justin Bieber fan. After that, i asked him for their setlist and he said "hold on" and began whispering into a stage managers ear... She came over and handed it to me! My mom actually caught a picture of it and im not sure what it was, my sunburn or my tears that made my face bright red... It was insane.
So after that, my night was just made.
