Is it or isn't it?
This is growing at the foot of our acacia tree. Harvey is concerned that it might be a variety of honey fungus which can be fatal to trees. Though there are different kinds of this killer fungus, I'm not sure this is one of them, it doesn't have the sticky characteristic and it's not in big enough clusters. However, I think it will have to go to be on the safe side.
Honey fungus, unlike some other parasites, can kill the host and continue happily living on the dead wood. The largest known cluster of this fungus is over 4 square miles in size, thought to be thousands of years old. Yep, got ago before it takes over.
Another fun session at the clinic. Only 3 more to go in this series.
