On the reading pile at the moment.

This is a very amusing collection of items which were kept secret for a period of time under the Official Secrets Act.

The titular story ("The Ironing lady") is about Mrs you-know-who. When she moved in to Downing St in 1979, the refurbishment/replacement regime cost £1836, including £464 for linen and £209 for new crockery. Plus £19 for a new ironing board.

Mrs T was furious about all this leaking out, and insisted she was going to pay the £19!

I think she cost us all a fair bit more than that over the years!
