Not foreign
Flew to Glasgow this afternoon, my first visit to Scotland since the in-out referendum vote. It seems strange to think that, if the decision had gone the other way, we might have been flying to a foreign country north of the border. I'm so glad we stayed together in the United Kingdom, although not all my dinner companions agreed. Two yes voters were vehement in their insistence that Scotland would have been better going it alone.
It has been deluging heavy rain here for several days, but it cleared in time for our arrival, and this was the beautifully crisp scene with Glasgow aglow below as we were coming in to land tonight.
We're here for the launch of the latest Audi TT, and staying at Mar Hall, a majestic old hotel near the Clyde. Someone who stayed there last night insisted that her room was haunted, with strange scraping sounds keeping her awake through the night. A long mirror in a passageway was shortened because staff late at night thought they saw figures reflected there. When we arrived a bat was trapped in the lofty stone portico and flying frantically around in the roof space, thwarting attempts to divert it outside.
Spooky happenings. Anyone would think it was nearly Halloween!
