Moraines at Inverlair
It was our first proper site day back after our break and it was very civilised also to be working so close to home. We have actually taken Caley for a walk up this track in the past and everything was looking beautiful this morning after the monsoon. While the rivers and burns are by no means low I am surprised at how much the water has receded in less than one day.
This area is known as Inverlair, where the Lair burn feeds in to the River Spean. There is a big house nearby of the same name famous for being a detention centre for Rudolf Hess; a Hitler cabinet member. It is extremely difficult to determine the motivation behind his solo flight to Scotland early in world war two; (though it was apparently to arrange peace talks) He was to be imprisoned for the rest of his life after being tried at Nuremberg for war crimes.
