A One Girl Band...Literally

Have you ever hear of a one man band? Well, I’m a one girl band. I write songs and also have music training to compose accompaniment to those songs. That musical training also means I have the ability to compose vocal harmonies and counter melodies to my lead vocals. I also have the knowledge and ability to record and edit music or other audio. On days like today, I combine all of those musical abilities and create a demo track. A demo track is a general, overview of a song. I record instrumentals such as piano, guitar, and percussion on basic, rhythmic levels. This means I include just enough of each instrument’s part that my band will understand what I want that line to sound like when they play it with the full difficulty. I do the same with my vocal tracks. I record my lead vocals after all of the instrumental tracks are recorded. Next, I record harmonies, counter melodies, and descants. Each instrumental, or vocal part is recorded on a new track. This means that when I finish recording a demo track for one song, I have taken about 7 different WAV tracks and mixed them into one MP3 track. Being a one girl band is the first step to producing a song with my band.
