Montmartre over the rooftops

Our last day in Paris today and we had the morning to ourselves. The group split up, with some (including us) heading to the Pompidou Centre and others heading back out to La Defense. We got to the Pompidou Centre by about half nine, but it wasn't open until 11am, so we went wandering. The walk helped to glue together the bits of Paris we had seen over the previous few days!

Our wanderings took us past the Hotel de Ville, across the Seine and to Notre Dame. We walked through the gardens at the cathedral and bought a couple of souvenirs from the tourist shops and then headed back to take some photos of the other sides of the Pompidou Centre. We then paid three euros each to get the views of Paris that were on offer from the observation area on the top floor. Paris had blue skies, but the smog was obvious!

Once we'd taken in the views we had some jus de pomme and macaroons at the cafe before heading back to meet up with the others.

Our journey back began - tube to the Gare du Nord, check in through security, lunch and then the Eurostar back to St Pancras. The group all said their goodbyes at the station - we had time for dinner before our train back up north and were joined by fellow Blipper jcfiren. We must also send a shout out to rudgem - the other Blipper on our trip. We finally arrived home around 8.30pm.

Many thanks to JohnGravett and his wife Gail for organising the trip, we both had a great time!

Update: more photos from the day on Flickr.
