Home day
We had plans for today but after a slightly busier week so far than we had originally planned and an early start tomorrow to head to France for the weekend we decided to have a quiet one at home. J managed to not leave the house all day, well apart from a game of badminton in the garden (his pedantry shows no signs of abating). Anna and I did some useful jobs around Chiswick and were rewarded for venturing out with the very bizarre site of a swan sitting in the road, being guarded by a neighbour. Apparently it had hurt its wing and had literally fallen out of the sky and landed there! A Swan Sanctuary had been called and the neighbour was making sure that passing cars didn't do it more damage.
What else? Bananagrams with J, attempting to build a DNA helix structure with Anna and watching some of Les Miserables. I did think we would manage the whole thing today but it really is very long.
And packing. And booking taxis for silly o'clock. And realising that this is not only the first time I have flown alone with the kids, it is also the first time I have gone to a funny foreign place and had to drive. With the kids navigating. Or hopefully one of those nice voices you can choose in the car. But as the reason is that I get a whole extra day in the sunshine with our friends and can drive around getting as lost as I like in daylight whilst Carlos is at work and getting a late flight out to join us I can hardly complain. Just a little apprehensive that's all. So I really ought to think about setting my alarm and trying to get to sleep.
The picture is Anna cooking herself scrambled egg, not only entirely unaided but with the added challenge of a big brother on a being annoying mission.
Hanging out at home school holiday days are fab. Even ones that contain laundry and homework.
