White-chinned petrel

A busy day with the penguins; counting gentoos and weighing macaronis, yet the real highlight was a few white-chinned petrels loudly calling outside their burrows. These are the largest burrowing birds here, about the size of a small gull, and are usually seen out at sea or whizzing past their colonies. Hearing their return, usually a chattering and screaming once it gets dark, has been a most welcome sound.
