View From A Hill

Two cannons facing the Forth, and the Beheading Stone. The stone is thought to have been used in capital punishment, during the 15th century. Several prominent people are thought to have been executed on this site. They are on the Gowan Hill, situated between the river Forth and Stirling Castle.
There is evidence of a hill fort destroyed about 350 AD. There has been some form of fortification guarding the crossing point for some 2000 years.

In the background (just) is the Wallace Monument.
