The Scaffold

Seems a strange word when you say it and always makes me think of the Scaffold pop group. (showing my age - careful) I reckon you have to be pretty fit to be a scaffolder and be prepared to hang from a metal bar on a very steep pitched and wet slate roof. They seem to be very cheery chappies at a quarter to eight in the morning regaling stories of the previous evening or discussing the merits of some scientific and controversial experiment (no really I heard it myself) They work speedily, in unison and time things perfectly. They have to shout in order to be able to have a conversation. One is on the ground and the other on the roof - much to the delight of guests next door at Staffield Hall trying to have a lie in. They did take it in good humour especially when the scaffolders walked past the bathroom window whilst one guest was having a private moment. The bathroom overlooks our 'dreaded flat roof' which in all these years we have had very little problems with 'touchwood' Its Hubby who angsts.

Now to get the roofers in - probably about £500 of work to be done max. The scaffold is £1000. If it were £30 of work to do the scaffold would still be £1000.
It is a lot of money but it has taken them two days to do and at least the roofers will be working in a safe environment. Our roofer fell off a roof some years ago and has only just lost his limp so he will be pretty chipper with the Scaffold.

ps what I forgot to mention is that the same structure has been put up on another of our chimneys at the back, so for your thousand you get two structures.
