Pannage
Had a beautiful walk in the New Forest in glorious sunshine this morning.
We did see some New Forest Ponies, but more unusually we saw lots of pigs too! Domestic pigs are released into the forest between late September until late into November to eat the acorns and chestnuts off the ground.
Large numbers of acorns in the ponies diets are poisonous, so that is why hundreds of pigs are released - this is know as "pannage"!!
