Jesuit Mission Cathedral

San Ignacio Mini is one of the many Jesuit Missions of the Rio Parana. They are scattered in this region from Brazil to Paraguay. The film 'The Mission' starring Robert de Niro happens in this area inhabited by the Guarani Indians.
This is what is left of the Jesuit Cathedral at San Ignacio Mini. This is a UNESCO World Heritage site. At one time, there were as many as 4,500 inhabitants in this huge mission set as a very organized social community dedicated to the welfare of the Indians.
Some of the carvings on the gates or the windows are still visible and are really interesting showing the skills of the Guarani craftsmen.
San Ignacio is 250km south of Iguazu Falls in Argentina and almost 1,100km both of Buenos Aires.
