Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red

Mum, Barbs and I headed into London early this morning to see the poppies. We'd heard that last week had been really busy, and saw some other blips of the crowds, so we left home at 7.30 am to get the 8.20 am train. En-route, I had a text from Lorraine, to say that say that Tower Hill underground station was closed, but it turned out that the whole Northern and District line was closed. So we caught a bus to Waterloo where we then had to get another bus which took us direct to the tower.

We were there by 10am and even at that time there were so many people, and it took a long time to walk around the perimeter wall, but it was worth it, the poppies are amazing! By lunch time the sun came out and the sky cleared, so we walked to St Katherine's dock where we sat and had lunch. We saw Gloriana, the Queen's rowbarge which was used at her Diamond Jubilee.

After lunch, we walked across Tower Bridge to the South Bank, then battled the crowds on the other side, who were coming in the opposite direction, but then we had a nice stroll to The Shard. We had to queue to get in, but it didn't take too long and we went to Oblix for a drink before heading home.

We've had a great day and are so pleased that we got to see the poppies - I can recommend going, but if you do - go early!
