Experimentation In The Kitchen...

...does not always look pretty.

Trying a recipe for pear jam, using fallers picked up on one of our walks. They are (very) unripe and have added some ripe apple to make up the weight. The pectin test is positive. What could possibly go wrong...?

Well, whatever it was, did. I knew by the way it boiled that it wasn't right and it has refused to set. I have six small jars of khaki-coloured syrup with gritty lumps in it.

Still, it will make an interesting topping for ice cream.
