The Nuptial flight

These are alway wrongly referred to as flying ants but they are not ants at all. In fact they are termites which evolved from cockroaches about 30 million years ago and developed the ability to digest wood. Ants are much more modern and evolved from wasp like animals - all the insects with a waist line.
Anyway this is their nuptial flight which usually happens in the evening. Bad news when its a daily emergence as all the reptiles and birds are attracted to this feast and often pay for it with their lives (run over by cars)
