A Day of Learning at MeCA
Dear Diary,
Spent a wonderful day learning how to make a variation of the traditional clam shell box at the Maine College of Art. It is always so much fun to go back to school, even for a day! I have to admit that I love fashioning things by hand, especially hand-made books, and now I will at box making to the list.
Looking back at my two posts about The Work of Their Hands I realize that although I am not a needle artist as my grandmother and mother were I still have the desire to create by hand. I love my photography but it lacks the hand-made element so I create books, and now boxes, to hold them. There is something so satisfying in working with one's hands. Seeing the final result is deeply gratifying even if you have to struggle at times to get it done. Book and box art requires a precision of mind and method that I find a challenge being so much a right brain intuitive sort.
Challenging one's self in a new pursuit should be a lifelong learning experience. I will never tire of going back to school!
