AB Stone
Another day, another conference, this time in Birmingham for the Lean Construction Institute Summit 2014. Another interesting day although the venue wasn’t the best, the microphone wasn’t used, the rooms weren’t quite big enough and the organisation for breaks and dinner was a bit of a shambles. Considering it was all to do with Lean, you would have thought the process would have been a bit smoother ;)
So rather than bore you with another picture of a conference, here is a picture of AB stone which I passed on the way to the conference. Here is what it is all about, which is on the other side of the stone:
“In 1764 this stone marked the boundary between the parishes of Aston and Birmingham, the ‘A’ and ‘B’ on the stone, and gave its name to A B Row.
Aston Parish covered a vast area, stretching from Deritend out to Water Orton. Birmingham Parish was much smaller, covering part of what is now the city centre, Ladywood and Soho.
Over the years this stone has been attached to a number of different buildings, most recently to the factory of Gabriel and Co, which preserved the stone so that it could be placed on its original site.”
A great evening out later with good friends as we went to the Rugby Dinner of the Year in Cwmbran, with rugby legends David Campese, Zinzan Brooke and Jonathan Davies. It was excellent!
