Butte du Lion, Waterloo
Awoke feeling a tad fragile this morning. Belgian beer is much stronger than I anticipated. After a flagon of black coffee and a handful of painkillers all was well.
We all went for a long walk in the forest. Beautiful. Back to Sera and Aldo's for brunch and then we headed into Waterloo to see the above. A bronze figure of a lion sitting on top of a large artificial mound, raised in 1826 as a battle memorial (Waterloo 1815) We didn't climb the 226 steps to view the battlefield. It was chilly and blowy and essentially we couldn't be bothered to trek up there. Many jokes were made about being taken up the Butte and up Wellington's passage - a local shopping mall... snigger, snigger.
Had a look in the little museum that was the place where Napoleon made his battle plans prior to the Battle of Waterloo. From there we went into town for coffee and cakes.
A fabulous day.
