Who'll join me for winkles?

Romsey is one of Hampshire’s most historic market towns and has held the right to stage a market by royal charter going back to the 12th century.
King Henry 1 granted that charter in the 12th century, allowing a market to be held every Sunday, so Hampshire Farmers’ Market today continues an ancient tradition of holding a market on a Sunday, although the Farmers’ Market like most around the country is now held just one Sunday a month.
It is a regular first Sunday of the month visit for me and I collected my regular favourites – fresh free range eggs which I am assured were laid only the day before, and winkles!
Now, maybe winkles may be a generation thing. My wife mentioned my shopping trip to a young friend and winkles were completely unknown to her. My own daughter however used the expression ‘yummy.’
But that’s just two of the delights found in a farmers’ market, and organisers of the Romsey market suggest over 30 stallholder producers attend regularly selling meat, eggs, cheese, cakes, wine, cider, bread, honey, jams and pickles, fresh and smoked fish, fresh fruits and vegetables, plants and shrubs.
Mouth-watering hot buffalo burgers are among the most popular attractions but you’ll also find English wine from local grapes on offer, plus plenty of tasting opportunities and chances to meet and chat with the producers.
But someone please re-assure me that I am not alone in my craving for winkles
