Hedge sparrow
It think it is, anyway. I wish I was a little more knowledgeable about birds. I looked it up in the bird book and it certainly fits the description. The bird book called it 'Prunella Modularis' which is a much fancier name than hedge sparrow and said it was introduced in to New Zealand in 1868 - which seems very precise. The bird was very quick moving and vanished in the blink of an eye.
Thanks to all those very nice folk who gave stars and hearts to my shags feeding yesterday. You sent them to Spotlight where they still reign. I was delighted that so many other folk found it as fascinating as I did.
