A little ray of sunshine

By Fizzerella

Walking t'other way

A further canal walk with my parents after dropping the children off at school. This time heading in the Leeds direction, stopping off for coffee and bacon butties in the sunshine on the way back to Saltaire where we had a wander round the mill and lunch at the Italian deli.

This bridge was built in 1774 at the Junction of the Leeds Liverpool canal and the Bradford canal. The large derelict building across the bridge was the toll office and bargemen's dormitory, known as the Barracks.

Pollution and lack of traffic due to water supply problems caused it to be closed in 1922 and filled in, so now the bridge is largely redundant.

Although redundant on 25th January 1978 it became a GRADE II listed building.
