Church doors
Today's the day ...................... for fancy ironmongery
These are the doors of St John the Baptist Church at Skelsmergh, about two miles north of Kendal.
The current church was built between 1869 and 1871 by Joseph Bintley, a Westmorland architect - although there was already a chapel on the site, dedicated to St John the Baptist. There is a well, also dedicated to St John with a stream running through the grounds.
The intricate hinges and other bits of ironmongery caught my eye today. I mean to say - if you're going to hang a door, why not make a proper job of it - like these ones ........................?
