Eating out in the 1970's !

We took my Mum & Dad out for a bar lunch today and were talking about the fact that when we were growing up, it was a rare occasion to 'eat out' anywhere (unlike nowadays). My only experience of anything remotely resembling a restaurant or bar was Moota Motel on the A595 near Cockermouth. When Dad took us to work with him (if he was working out West) he would treat Thomas and I to a round of turkey sandwiches and a glass of orange squash and lemonade. It was brilliant. I fondly recall the fruit machine in the lobby, the piano musak playing through the speakers in the bar/lounge area and the hunting scene oil paintings on the wall. The owner was a man called Ike Eilbeck who Dad informed us "drove a Rolls Royce". I also recall decorating my plate with vomit one Boxing Day meal when I was told to eat up my Brussel Sprouts - my parents never made me eat them ever again ! Happy memories. Sad that it's derelict now (or has it been demolished?)
