THE PROCESS

The body, flayed
A knife to carve the flesh
and gouge the eyes

A saucepan, clean

Water, boiling, cooks,
the body screams

The room afills of steam
If the flesh were boned
from the bones

the flesh would now fall

but starch instead of blood
the only outpouring

the tendered flesh
falls easily, now

crushed by tools and hand
buttered, like as not
greased, and salted also

garnished with a mocking leaf

atop, as they were in life
no further growth for he

the mashed
devoured and then forgotten.
