Out and About

Quarry Wood

This afternoon I walked with friend Lynne after lunch at the Crow & Gate in Crowborough. Perhaps lunch went on too long because when we come out to start our walk the sun was disappearing behind a dark black cloud. Better take waterproofs.

We found ourselves on on a wide path that used to carry hores and carts taking iron ore to to any of 20 furnaces existing in Tudor times within 7 miles.

This pond has been here for 500 years. It is the result of the excavation of iron ore and clay starting around 1575. The clay was dug by hand to reach the iron ore and used for bricks and roof tiles .

The last 20 mins were in torrential rain. Thank goodness we took waterproofs.
