Life rocks...everyday!

Serving Fullerton College Since 1922

On my way out tonight from a Lit Class, I crossed an empty campus heading to the parking structure when I passed this newstand. A quick flashback brought me into the Hornet offices where I was a reporter 40 years ago.

I started at Valencia High School writing for the school paper "El Tigre", taking photos and writing anything the Editor in Chief would assign. I loved to come over to Fullerton College to use their library for research and always grabbed a copy of "The Hornet" to read what college life was all about.

The following year I attended Fullerton College, then called Fullerton Junior College or FJC, and majored in Journalism. I enjoyed writing, but I found that I wanted to write about what I wanted to write about, not the next meeting of T.W.E.E.N.s(Those Women Entering Education Now) or the Cosmetology Club. I wanted to write record reviews, cover some waterpolo games and follow the anti-war rallies and student demonstrations while the Vietnam War was being fought by college age kids, my peers.

Well, I did get some record reviews published, but never got the cool assignments that surely would have launched my career as a foreign correspondent for a major newspaper. So Journalism became the first of many college majors for me. I still haven't nailed one down.
