Fireworks at the Etihad

There were fireworks on and off the pitch at the Etihad Stadium tonight as Manchester's City's European ambitions went up in smoke. They needed a rocket at half time, when they were 1-2 down to CSKA Moscow but their second half performance lacked sparkle. Two City guys were red carded and there was no further score. Even if City had been able to attack two goals I doubt that would have made much difference.

Additional entertainment was provided by the stadium stewards and police hunting and ejecting Russian fans, in scenes reminiscent of the Cold War. CSKA's supporters were banned from attending Champions League matches a few weeks ago, after racist chanting at their games.

This shot was taken by my son Tom, demonstrating for me the fancy panorama device on my new iPhone.
