Eleftherios Venizelos

This is the memorial to Eleftherios Venizelos and he and his son are buried nearby. The statue overlooks Chania from a hilltop. This was a rare sunny day so we caught the bus there and walked back. Eleftherios Venizelos played a significant role in the setting up of the Cretan state and later joining Crete to the rest of Greece. He later became prime minister.
