Around The Block #3
La Nucia, the town where I live is 10 Km inland from Benidorm and it is a different world indeed to it's near neighbour. There are mountains higher than Ben Nevis, rivers, waterfalls, vineyards, orange and lemon groves, olive trees in abundance, whitewashed houses on cobbled streets, churches, tapas bars, mountain restuarants, cycling paths and walkways, arts centres, vast sporting facilities, modern supermarkets, old fashioned fruit and veg' markets, corner shops and of course my local German bar that serves the best beer in the world. Probably.
The town also has some precariously situated housing. A lot of these houses went up during the boom years where land, no matter how unsuitable, was grabbed up by greedy developers. Many of the houses on my walk around the block (blocks) are built into the side of barrancos. These are steep sided valleys that were formed by rivers that now no longer exist. Houses like this have been known to subside during severe flooding although these ones seem fairly well constructed. My house is a few hundred metres further up the mountain and built on solid flat land.
Cat Update: I met up with the cat from yesterday's blip and she let me cut some of the matted hair from her body. A foodie bribe was involved. If I cut a little bit each day then perhaps give her a brush she should be looking good by the end of the month.
