Glasgow nighthawks

I was downtown this afternoon. I passed this restaurant on Sauchiehall Street and something about it made me think of Edward Hopper's famous painting .
Something about the couple and the decor . The couple framed and exposed by the bright lights of the restaurant in the darkening evening, looking like they were negotiating the beginnings of something. The guy trying to make the lass laugh. Her responding. It all seemed so timeless, so framed in 50s diner chic . And all amid the messy clamour of commuters in the street outside, all busy going their own ways perpendicular to couple.

But to stop and see. To freeze a moment, is to sometimes grasp the sublime simplicities that give our lives value. That matter. A smile. A laugh. A look of recognition. A slight shift in the Universe between two people moving closer to one another. A feather drifting to ground from the night sky.
